Known as the "Street of the Incomparable Pearl," Dariba Kalan is a 17th-century market famous for its jewelry and perfumes. Once a bustling center for gold and precious stones during the Mughal era, this street witnessed significant historical events, including the tragic massacre ordered by Nadir Shah in 1739. Today, it still carries the charm of the past with shops selling costume jewelry and attar, a traditional Indian perfume. As you walk down this historic lane, you'll also find Kinari Bazaar, Gali Kazanchi, and Gali Paranthe Wali, adding to the vibrant mosaic of sights and smells.
This fascinating street of Ballimaran, steeped in history and culture, was once home to boatmen and later to noblemen and hakims (traditional physicians). Among its many treasures is Ghalib ki Haveli, the residence of the renowned Urdu poet Mirza Ghalib. This heritage site, nestled in Gali Qasim Jan, offers a glimpse into the poet's life and the era when Mughal grandeur was fading. The house, gifted to Ghalib by a physician admirer, has become a pilgrimage site for lovers of poetry and history.
