About the Event

In a bid to honor the enduring spirit of democratic expression, and our story of Freedom and Independence, Karwaan Heritage has designed an innovative and thought-provoking walk - 'The Azaadi Walk'. This experimental walk set for August 11, 2024, at 10 AM, will commence from Mandi House and culminate at Jantar Mantar, two significant landmarks in the heart of Delhi.

Mandi House, a notable locality in Delhi, India, has a rich history tied to its origins as the residence of the Raja of Mandi. In the 1940s, Raja Sir Joginder Sen Bahadur, the 18th Raja of Mandi State, established his residence near what is now Himachal Bhawan. The estate was sold and divided in the 1970s, leading to the demolition of the original palace and the construction of large, modern office buildings in the 1990s. The area is now home to Himachal Bhawan, the state house of Himachal Pradesh, and Doordarshan Bhawan, the headquarters of the national television broadcaster Doordarshan. The name "Mandi House" persists, referencing both the office complex and the nearby Mandi House metro station, commemorating the area's royal past. Additionally, the historic Agrasen ki Baoli well is located nearby, further enhancing the cultural significance of the locality.

The walk will culminate at Jantar Mantar, a historic observatory that has become synonymous with peaceful democratic protests in Delhi. It has long been a designated space for public demonstrations, providing a platform for citizens to voice their concerns and aspirations. It is not just a historical tour but a celebration of the collective spirit of Indian citizens. We aim to honor the legacy of our freedom fighters and all those who fought to save the ideals of our freedom in Independent India.
